Sverna sotto forma di miceli nelle gemme infette o nei cleistoteci, che fungono da inoculo primario.<\/p><p><em>Conidi<\/em> (spore asessuate) e <em>ascospore<\/em> (spore sessuali) sono prodotte rispettivamente dal micelio e dal cleistotecio. Vengono trasportate dal vento verso le piante sensibili e, una volta atterrate, germinano e producono un tubo germinale che forma ife, diffondendo l'infezione. Le infezioni secondarie avvengono principalmente attraverso i conidi. Quelli prodotti dalle infezioni primarie e successive sono trasportati dal vento e dalla pioggia, continuando l'infezione. Questa infezione fungina provoca la deformazione delle foglie, l'arricciamento e la caduta prematura delle stesse. Anche i boccioli e i fiori sono vulnerabili: possono non aprirsi correttamente e presentare scolorimento e crescita stentata. La temperatura ottimale va da 21 a 27\u00b0C e lo sviluppo della malattia rallenta a temperature superiori a 28\u00b0C. Poich\u00e9 le spore e il micelio sono sensibili al calore estremo e alla luce solare diretta, le temperature calde e moderate e l'ombra sono generalmente favorevoli. Il fungo non necessita di umidit\u00e0 per insediarsi e crescere dopo l'infezione. In condizioni di siccit\u00e0 si formano molti pi\u00f9 conidi che in condizioni di umidit\u00e0. Queste lesioni possono aggregarsi, dando origine ad aree malate pi\u00f9 estese e a possibili spaccature dei frutti. Sui rametti e sui germogli, le infezioni appaiono come lesioni leggermente rialzate, da rotonde a ovali, di colore marrone con margini viola, pi\u00f9 avanti nella stagione. Le infezioni fogliari sono meno comuni, ma possono verificarsi in condizioni favorevoli.
