responsabili dell'oidio delle cucurbitacee, con <em>Podosphaera xanthii<\/em> e <em>Erysiphe cichoracearum<\/em> sono gli agenti patogeni pi\u00f9 significativi. Storicamente, <em>E. cichoracearum<\/em> \u00e8 stata considerata l'agente causale primario a livello mondiale fino al 1958. Tuttavia, <em>P. xanthii<\/em> \u00e8 diventata la specie pi\u00f9 diffusa associata all'oidio delle cucurbitacee a livello globale. <em>E. cichoracearum<\/em> tipicamente prospera in condizioni pi\u00f9 fresche, come i periodi primaverili e di inizio estate, mentre <em>P. xanthii<\/em> prolifera pi\u00f9 efficacemente durante i mesi pi\u00f9 caldi. Inoltre, <em>P. xanthii<\/em> sembra essere pi\u00f9 aggressivo di <em>E. cichoracearum<\/em>. Sebbene la distinzione tra i conidi di queste due specie possa essere difficile, la presenza di corpi di fibrosina nei conidi di <em>P. xanthii<\/em> \u00e8 un criterio fondamentale per la determinazione di entrambi.<\/p><p>I funghi dell'oidio si riproducono sia per via asessuata che sessuale.<\/p><p>Per via asessuata, i conidi (spore asessuate) atterrano su una pianta ospite, dove germinano e producono un appressorium e un haustorium per estrarre i nutrienti dalla pianta. I conidiofori emergono dalle ife e producono nuovi conidi che vengono dispersi dal vento, diffondendo l'infezione. Il periodo di incubazione dura solitamente 3-7 giorni e in breve tempo pu\u00f2 essere prodotto un numero significativo di conidi.<\/p><p>La riproduzione sessuale avviene quando le ife di tipo opposto si incontrano e formano i cleistoteci. I cleistoteci contengono diversi aschi, ciascuno contenente otto ascospore (spore sessuali). Servono anche come fonti di svernamento, consentendo al patogeno di sopravvivere a condizioni difficili. Sulle superfici delle foglie, sui piccioli e sugli steli si formano macchie polverose bianche di miceli e conidi, facilmente riconoscibili. All'inizio compaiono macchie bruno-rossastre, che diventano bianche con la produzione di ife e spore. Queste colonie fungine si espandono fino a ricoprire l'intera superficie. L'infezione da oidio porta a una riduzione della fotosintesi, a una senescenza precoce e persino alla morte della pianta. I frutti, pur non essendo direttamente o raramente attaccati dal fungo, possono subire deformazioni o maturazione precoce. Questi frutti presentano una scarsa conservabilit\u00e0 (zucca invernale), bassi solidi solubili con un sapore scadente (melone), un colore della scorza scadente (zucca) e manici raggrinziti e scoloriti (zucche). Lo sviluppo della malattia si arresta quando le temperature diurne superano i 28\u00b0C. Le condizioni favorevoli per il patogeno includono una crescita densa delle piante e una bassa intensit\u00e0 luminosa. Il patogeno persiste tra le stagioni vegetative nei detriti infestati, fungendo da fonte primaria di inoculo per le colture future.<\/p><h3>Sintomi<\/h3><p><em>Alternaria<\/em> Le infezioni su cucurbitacee si manifestano principalmente sulle foglie pi\u00f9 vecchie vicino alla corona della pianta. I sintomi iniziali comprendono piccole macchie circolari di colore marrone con centro bianco sulla superficie superiore della foglia. Queste macchie si allargano, diventando di colore marrone chiaro e formando lesioni leggermente depresse con anelli concentrici, caratteristici di <em>Alternaria<\/em> infezioni. Un alone giallo circonda le lesioni, che alla fine possono coagularsi, portando a necrosi estese e defogliazione. Il patogeno pu\u00f2 infettare anche le radici delle piante infestanti, complicando gli sforzi di rotazione delle colture.<\/p><h3>Sintomi<\/h3><p><em>Phytophthora<\/em> La peronospora colpisce le cucurbitacee in tutti gli stadi di crescita, provocando l'inumidimento delle piantine, il marciume della chioma e della vite, le macchie fogliari e il marciume dei frutti. Le piantine infette sviluppano lesioni impregnate d'acqua sull'ipocotile, causando un rapido appassimento e la morte. Le piante mature possono presentare lesioni di colore marrone scuro, intrise d'acqua, su fusti e tralci, con conseguente appassimento improvviso e collasso. Le foglie possono sviluppare macchie scure e impregnate d'acqua che si fondono in condizioni di umidit\u00e0, dando origine a una peronospora estesa. Le infezioni dei frutti iniziano con lesioni impregnate d'acqua, spesso sulla parte inferiore, che si espandono e si ricoprono di muffa bianca, portando infine al collasso dei frutti. Il fungo forma un micelio che distrugge le pareti cellulari e si diffonde, producendo muffa grigia con conidiofori.<\/p><p>L'infezione pu\u00f2 avvenire prima o dopo il raccolto, con le spore che rimangono dormienti fino allo stoccaggio, dove l'elevata umidit\u00e0 e le basse temperature innescano un'ulteriore crescita. Il fungo si diffonde dai frutti marci a quelli sani, rovinando interi raccolti. Migliorare la ventilazione attraverso un'ampia spaziatura delle piante e la sfogliatura aiuta a ridurre l'infezione.<\/p><h3>Sintomi<\/h3><p><em>Botrytis cinerea<\/em> colpisce tutte le parti aeree delle cucurbitacee, comprese le foglie, gli steli e soprattutto i frutti, formando una caratteristica muffa grigia.<\/p><p>Sulle foglie compaiono macchie circolari con zone concentriche e un alone clorotico, a partire dai margini delle lamine e fino alla necrosi.
