Pasa el invierno en forma de micelio en los brotes infectados o cleistotecios y \u00e9stos sirven como in\u00f3culo primario.<\/p><p><em>Conidios<\/em> (esporas asexuales) y <em>ascosporas<\/em> (esporas sexuales) son producidas por el micelio y el cleistotecio, respectivamente. Son transportadas por el viento hasta las plantas susceptibles y, una vez en tierra, germinan y producen un tubo germinativo que forma hifas, propagando la infecci\u00f3n. Las infecciones secundarias se producen principalmente a trav\u00e9s de conidios. Las producidas por las infecciones primarias y posteriores son transportadas por el viento y la lluvia, continuando la infecci\u00f3n. Esta infecci\u00f3n f\u00fangica provoca la deformaci\u00f3n y el enrollamiento de las hojas, as\u00ed como su ca\u00edda prematura. Los capullos y las flores tambi\u00e9n son vulnerables; pueden no abrirse correctamente y mostrar decoloraci\u00f3n y retraso del crecimiento. La temperatura \u00f3ptima oscila entre 21 y 27'c y el desarrollo de la enfermedad se ralentiza a temperaturas superiores a 28'c. Dado que las esporas y el micelio son sensibles al calor extremo y a la luz solar directa, las temperaturas c\u00e1lidas moderadas y la sombra suelen ser favorables. No se requiere humedad para que el hongo se establezca y crezca tras la infecci\u00f3n. Se forman muchas m\u00e1s conidias en condiciones secas que en h\u00famedas.
