The term \u201ccherry\u201d identifies a group of species, native to Europe and Western Asia, belonging to the genus Prunus within the family Rosaceae (St\u00e9ger-M\u00e1t\u00e9, 2012).<\/p><p><em>Prunus cerasus<\/em>\u00a0L. var. austera has a long history of being grown for its fruit.\u00a0<strong>Sweet cherry<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>Prunus avium<\/em>\u00a0L.), the most cultivated species, is grown for its fruit in temperate regions of the world (Proietti et al., 2019).\u00a0<strong>Sour cherry<\/strong>, also known as\u00a0<strong>Tart cherry<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>Prunus cerasus<\/em>\u00a0L.):\u00a0<strong>Caproniana<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Amarella cherry<\/strong>, with light-colored flesh;\u00a0<strong>Marasca<\/strong>, with soft red flesh and a slightly tart flavor; and\u00a0<strong>Austera<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Morello cherry<\/strong>, with dark red flesh and strong acidic juice are also cultivated and many of them are rich in nutritional components that are thought to be beneficial to human health (Proietti et al., 2019; Ross, Neilsen and Neilsen, 2018).<\/p><p>Cherry\u2019s genotype and growing environment are affecting the compositional parameters of the fruit aka weight, dry matter (DM) contents, carbohydrates, malic acid and anthocyanins (Proietti et al., 2019). There are many studies that demonstrate the value of observations, the\u00a0<strong>importance of disease modelling and the value of weather forecasting and irrigation management to cherry growers<\/strong>\u00a0(Adeyemi et al., 2017).<\/p><p>Appropriate models, if coupled with weather forecasts, have the potential to assist growers now through better prediction of flowering time to support application of dormancy breakers and management of the flowering period for optimizing fruit set and quality. Another important disease, also occurring by high moisture conditions is the disease\u00a0<strong>shot hole<\/strong>, caused by the fungal pathogen\u00a0<em>Wilsonmyces carpophilu<\/em>\u00a0and the disease of cherry\u00a0<strong>leaf spot<\/strong>, caused by\u00a0<em>Blumeriella jaapii<\/em>.<\/p><h4><em>Brown rot<\/em><\/h4><p>Brown rot, caused by\u00a0<em>Monilia spp<\/em>. (<em>Monilia laxa<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Monilia fructigena<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Monilia fructicola<\/em>) is among the most destructive diseases of stone fruits throughout Europe. Infected leaves show small brown spots with reddish margins which expand to larger circular lesions. These spots dry and fall out of the leaf, giving a shothole appearance. The disease reduces flowering and weakens the tree. Leaves show small purple to brown spots with definite boundaries in early summer.
